What I Wish I Knew Before Now
Our external world, ought to be as exciting as our internal one. — Anon
As this is the first day, and thus, the first post I want to start on a positive. We just don’t know how long this positive will last! There’s a ton of stuff I’ve learned that in my rational mind I can see. I’m hoping if I share some of these lessons, maybe I’ll save someone the bother of learning.
You can’t make life not suck, it sucks (wait wait, it is still positive, promise) but that old biblical Serenity Prayer is on to something ” God grant us the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference. “
Being happy can be hard, give yourself a break. Leaving a situation that is toxic and no good to you seems, on paper, the key to happiness. But change is change, whether is good change or bad change it’s still something to adjust to and that can be hard!
You are responsible for your own happiness, no one else’s. This one can be hard to grasp but even our significant others, yes we want them to be happy, but ultimately they are the ones in charge of their own happiness. It’s up to them how they see the world just like it’s up to you to how you see yours.
Money doesn’t buy happiness, but damn it does help. Don’t get me wrong, I am poor. Like, really. But money troubles are bad for the heart. Always make sure you have your necessities, but don’t let anyone else tell you what your necessities are.
Say no! Be proud, we are taught that pride is a sin from such a young age. How much is your self-respect worth? If you don’t want to do something say no, you don’t even need an excuse. Don’t feel bad.
Find yourself. I’m not talking go on a spiritual wilderness camp travelling. I’m talking find what you like, no influences, just you. Research things that interest you and NEVER be embarrassed. Dance like a nutter, chances are you’ll never see the people around you again. Sing when ever the mood strikes, it rare we get those Disney style moments in life. And believe what you believe with passion!
